There are several reasons why a person may want to undergo a DNA testing. For one, DNA tests can reveal a person’s biological father. In cases where legal issues such as child custody, contesting of wills and resolving estate disputes among biological families, a DNA test is very helpful. DNA tests may also be simply taken for peace of mind. Another reason for a DNA test would be to establish parental lineage or ancestry. Although taking a DNA test will not tell you exactly who your ancestors are, it will reveal much about your ethnicity or race. If a relative is known, DNA tests may also be taken to determine both your most recent common ancestor.

Since DNA samples can be taken from hair follicles, semen, saliva, blood and other biological samples, DNA tests is also becoming a fast-rising tool for forensic science and criminology. It proves or disproves whether a crime suspect is, indeed, present at the crime scene or not and disqualifies those suspects whose DNA test results do not match with those found on crime scenes.
